What Changes From One Town to the Next
A floor in Swadlincote is not the same job as a floor in Belper, and the difference is almost never the covering you choose. It is what is underneath it — and that is decided by when the houses were built and what they were built on.
Knowing which kind of house you are in tells you most of what a job will involve before anybody has measured anything. Four broad families cover the whole patch.
The coalfield towns — Heanor, Ripley, Alfreton and Swadlincote — are terraces and large postwar estates on solid floors laid a long time before anyone measured for level. Levelling is part of the job far more often than not.
The old stone and cottage stock — Belper, Melbourne, Ambergate, Ashbourne — predates damp-proof membranes entirely, and half of it sits on timber over a void rather than on the ground. Testing before laying is the difference between a floor that lasts and one that lifts.
The modern estates — much of Hilton, Chellaston and the newer edges of everywhere else — are flat and sound, but they bring liquid screed, underfloor heating and chipboard decks, each with rules of their own that are easy to get wrong and expensive to put right.
The suburbs — Allestree, Mickleover and Littleover, Borrowash — have mostly been extended, so the question is usually how to get one floor running through parts of a house built forty years apart.
Whichever of those sounds like your house, the town page above goes into it properly.
What Is the Same Wherever You Are
The geography changes the job. It does not change how we work, and these apply everywhere on the list.
There is no showroom. That is a deliberate decision rather than a gap — rent, rates and stock all end up inside the price of a floor, and we would rather they did not. Samples come to the room they are destined for, which is also where the colour actually makes sense.
Most jobs are priced without a visit. Photographs of each room, rough measurements and a note of what is down at present will usually get you a figure back inside a working day. Bigger jobs and anything where the existing floor is an unknown get a visit first, because pricing a subfloor nobody has looked at is guesswork.
We take on fit-only work if you have bought the flooring yourself, we lift and dispose of the old floor as part of the price rather than as an extra, and everything carries a 12-month workmanship guarantee. Finance is available through Ideal4Finance, subject to status — the detail is on the finance options page.
Commercial Work Across the Patch
The commercial side follows the geography just as closely. Distribution and warehousing cluster around junction 28 and East Midlands Airport; hospitality gathers near the airport and Donington Park; independent food and retail is concentrated in Belper, Melbourne and Ashbourne; and nurseries, salons and small practices turn up everywhere.
What we fit for businesses is commercial vinyl and carpet tile in shops, offices and receptions, welded safety vinyl with coved skirtings in anything preparing food, slip-resistant flooring in wet and welfare areas, and barrier matting at entrances, which does more for the lifespan of a commercial floor than anything else on the specification.
Commercial work is scheduled around your closure rather than ours — an evening, a closed day, a shutdown week or a school holiday. Tell us the window and we will price the job to fit inside it.

Questions About Where We Work
How do I know if you cover my address?
Find the nearest town on the list above. Each of those pages names the surrounding villages it covers, so between them they account for most of Derby, Amber Valley, Erewash, South Derbyshire and the southern Dales.
If you still cannot see yourself, ring 01332 215444. We would rather give you a straight answer in thirty seconds than leave you waiting on a quote that never comes.
What happens if I am just outside the areas listed?
Ask. Being a mile past the edge of a list is not the same as being out of reach, and the honest answer depends on where exactly you are and what the job is.
A whole-house job somewhere slightly further out can make perfect sense where a single small room would not. We will tell you which yours is rather than quoting and hoping.
Is the service different depending on where I live?
No. The same people, the same guarantee, the same way of quoting and the same 12-month workmanship cover, wherever you are on this list.
What differs is the advice, because the houses differ. That is the entire reason each town has its own page rather than one page with the name swapped.
Which areas are you in most often?
Derby and the towns immediately around it are everyday work. The Dales, the far south of the county and the Erewash edges are planned rather than spontaneous.
It does not change whether we come, only how much notice helps. If you are on the outer edge of the patch, a bit of flexibility on dates usually gets you a better slot.
Can you do more than one property in the same area on one visit?
Yes, and it is worth asking if you have several. Landlords with more than one property in the same town, or families doing two houses at once, are far more efficient to programme together than separately.
Tell us all of them when you ask for a price rather than one at a time, and we will schedule them as one run.
Do you have a showroom anywhere?
No, anywhere. A shop means rent, rates, staff and stock, and every one of those sits inside the price of the flooring sold from it.
Samples come to you instead, into the room they are going in, under your own light. It is a better way to choose and a cheaper way to buy.
Do you cover businesses everywhere you cover homes?
Yes, across the whole list. Shops, offices, nurseries, salons, gyms, care and clinical premises, commercial kitchens and the office side of industrial units.
Commercial work is scheduled around your closure — an evening, a closed day, a shutdown week or a school holiday. There is more on our commercial flooring page.
How quickly can you give me a price?
Usually inside a working day. Send photographs of each room, rough measurements and a note of what is down at the moment.
Larger jobs and anything where the existing floor is an unknown quantity get a visit before we quote, because pricing a subfloor nobody has looked at is not a quote, it is a guess.
